A shooting at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon injured 11 teenagers early Sunday, Sheriff David Davis said. Two victims, ages 17 and 18, were in critical but stable condition; the other nine were hospitalized in stable condition. No arrests had been made.
Authorities were called at 12:06 a.m. EDT after reports of gunfire at a large gathering. Davis said early indications were that a group of teens near the skatepark was approached by another group across the street; he said the groups exchanged words, brandished firearms and fired at each other.
As deputies headed to the park, they were told injured people were arriving at a local hospital in private cars, and the emergency room was placed on lockdown. Seven vehicles, including four that transported victims, were impounded for crime-lab examination. Davis said authorities would charge adults if they could establish a connection to the shooting.
