Ryan Yarbrough is scheduled to start for the Yankees against Baltimore’s Brandon Young in Friday’s 7:30 p.m. ET doubleheader nightcap at Yankee Stadium. New York will host Boston in the Wild Card round; Baltimore is eliminated from playoff contention.
Yarbrough, a long reliever, is making his second start of the season; his only other was 2.2 shutout innings against the Dodgers on July 19. Will Warren is expected to pitch a couple of innings as playoff preparation. Young has a 3.62 ERA, 4.53 FIP and 127 strikeouts in 151.2 innings. The game will be televised on YES and MASN.
Yankees right-hander Alexander Cornielle was added to the major-league roster between games after Brendan Beck was optioned. Cornielle made 16 starts for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre; an appearance Friday or Sunday would be his MLB debut.
