Woodward plans to move military flight-control actuation production from Santa Clarita, California, to a Spartanburg, South Carolina, campus expected to open in summer 2027. About 400 roles will be affected in phases; the company also agreed to sell the site and selected product.
The agreed sale covers the Santa Clarita campus and selected legacy commercial rotorcraft, land-systems and business-jet product lines, with closing expected in fiscal 2027. Woodward did not disclose sale proceeds or projected net savings.
Management says the move is intended to refine Woodward’s manufacturing footprint and improve its supply chain. The transition requires transferring production knowledge, staffing the new site and obtaining customer or regulatory approvals while maintaining deliveries. The company cites qualification delays, quality problems and lower productivity as risks; Spartanburg is also expected to make A350 spoiler actuation systems.
