Reuters reported on Sept. 13 that Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the next-generation Roadster will be unveiled Oct. 1, nearly nine years after its 2017 presentation and six years after its original 2020 delivery target. Tesla has not set a production or customer-delivery schedule.
The program has reportedly shifted from a high-performance electric vehicle using Model S Plaid components to an all-new carbon-fiber hypercar. The reveal may include a limited-edition version with cold-gas thrusters developed with SpaceX.
Tesla delivered 480,126 vehicles in the second quarter, up roughly 25% year over year, while active Full Self-Driving subscriptions rose 56%. Automotive gross margin was 16.3%, capital expenditures reached $5.8 billion and free cash flow was negative by roughly $1.1 billion. Separately, NHTSA ordered Tesla to answer further questions about Cybercab certification by Sept. 30.
