The Chicago White Sox clinched a 2026 MLB postseason berth by beating the Kansas City Royals 9-1 on Thursday, with a few regular-season games left. Asked whether he had helped, Pope Leo XIV said, “No comment,” then added, “Great things happen in Chicago.”
The White Sox had missed the postseason in the previous two seasons. After clinching, they beat the Colorado Rockies 6-1 and were set to play them twice more to finish the regular season. Former President Barack Obama also congratulated the team.
