The hosts warned that export limits could fill storage tanks, prompting refiners to slow runs and producers to cut output, which could affect supplies of gasoline and jet fuel as well as diesel. Citing Patrick De Haan of GasBuddy, they said global pricing and the cost of moving fuel to the Northeast and West could limit any short-term relief to the Gulf Coast.
The hosts said calls for action were growing across party lines, citing Republican Chuck Grassley and vocal agricultural interests, while noting that those calls were not necessarily for an export ban. Some panelists described the proposal as political signaling ahead of the midterms; that was their assessment, not an administration-stated reason.
