NuScale is trading near $8.75 without a commercial reactor sale

Motley Fool

NuScale Power shares traded around $8.75 at the time of writing, after ranging from $2 to $52 over three years. The company has yet to build or sell a commercial reactor; its Romanian project still needs funding, and other discussions have produced no firm sale.

NuScale is seeking to make small modular nuclear reactors in factories, then transport them to sites and combine units into larger plants. Romania’s RoPower has approved a plan to use six NuScale reactors, but the project still needs funding; talks with ENTRA1 Energy and the Tennessee Valley Authority concern only potential use.

The article says investor enthusiasm for nuclear power and newsflow drove the stock’s swings. It describes NuScale as a money-losing startup in a capital-intensive industry with strict government regulation; even after a contract, the company would still need to build and deliver reactors and prove its manufacturing capabilities and product reliability. The author calls the shares a high-risk bet with a limited track record.
