Whistleblowers say Kennedy Center COO Matt Floca halted a funded roof-repair plan in April, months before part of the roof collapsed after heavy rain in early September. The center’s board then closed the venue indefinitely.
Floca denies halting the work. He said he shifted it to a more comprehensive plan after a contractor quoted nearly three times the expected cost for the initial design, describing the move as a change in procurement rather than a decision that repairs were unnecessary. He said the extent of the damage became clear only this summer.
In a letter representing the anonymous whistleblowers, lawyer David Seide said Floca had requested and received the needed remediation funds more than a year earlier, but stopped the process in April. Congress earmarked $257 million for the Kennedy Center.
