Miami-Dade expects king tides Sept. 26-30 as Miami's forecast gives afternoon showers and thunderstorms a 40% chance Friday and Saturday, and 20% Sunday. The unusually high tides can flood streets without rain; heavy rain, strong winds or large waves could worsen flooding.
Miami Beach’s 2026 predictions, based on NOAA tide tables for Virginia Key, list the next periods as Oct. 7–13 (highest predicted tide Oct. 10), Oct. 24–30 (highest tides Oct. 26 and 27), Nov. 6–9 and Nov. 23–26. King tides typically last about three hours, the city says.
Miami-Dade County says sea-level rise is causing these tides to occur more often, last longer and extend farther inland than in the past. Miami advises people not to drive through floodwater or park in low-lying areas, and recommends flood-mitigation measures such as sandbags for low-lying properties.
