Wedela tavern shooting leaves 17 dead, 15 wounded as police launch manhunt

South African police launched a manhunt after a tavern shooting in Wedela, southwest of Johannesburg, killed 17 people and wounded 15 at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday. No arrests have been made, and the motive is unknown.

Emergency medical services declared 13 males and four females dead at the scene. Police said suspects were reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols and allegedly targeted the tavern, opening fire on customers outside before moving indoors and continuing to shoot.
