Althorp House, Princess Diana’s childhood home, is now where her brother Charles Spencer lives, and it opens to visitors for two months each summer. Spencer wrote “Swan Song: My sister, Diana” in its study; Diana is buried on an island there.
The Althorp estate covers 13,000 acres, and the house has 90 rooms. Diana was originally expected to be buried in the family vault in nearby Great Brington, but security concerns led Charles Spencer to suggest the Oval Lake instead; the island is accessible to family members only by boat.
Althorp was also where Diana first met then-Prince Charles, after her sister Sarah Spencer introduced them.
