Turkish distributor Baska Sinema acquired domestic theatrical rights to Vikki Bardot’s 80-minute English-language AI film “A Woman Asleep,” scheduled for release in 20 cities in Turkey in spring 2027. The experimental production took two years and was edited from 50,000 shots.
“A Woman Asleep” draws on the 1974 French film “The Man Who Sleeps,” directed by Bernard Queysanne and Georges Perec and based on Perec’s novel “A Man Asleep.” The film’s synopsis says it explores alienation and numbness in a hyper-connected world; its narration uses an AI voice clone trained on Bardot’s own voice.
The film comes from Turkish AI production studio Spongeworthy, also behind the AI-generated documentary “Post Truth,” directed by Alkan Avcıoğlu. “Post Truth” also received a theatrical release in Turkey through Baska Sinema.
