Vietnam’s defence ministry said Vietnam and North Korea will deepen defence cooperation after deputy ministers Nguyen Truong Thang and Ryo Chol Ung met in Hanoi on Thursday. It cited positive results in exchanges, political work, education and training.
Vietnamese deputy minister Nguyen Truong Thang called on both sides to implement a defence cooperation letter of intent signed in 2025. North Korean deputy minister Ryo Chol Ung praised ties between the countries’ ruling parties, states and armed forces and discussed bilateral defence cooperation, the ministry said.
The two countries have maintained diplomatic ties since the Cold War. Last month, Vietnam said it would build a memorial and renovate a cemetery dedicated to North Korean servicemen killed fighting during the Vietnam War.
