Venice is weighing a €30 day-trip entry fee, potentially up to €50, after budget councillor Michele Zuin said the current €5–€10 charge is no longer much of a deterrent to crowds. Any 2027 increase would require approval from Italy’s national government.
Introduced in 2024, Venice’s fee does not apply to overnight guests; early bookings receive the lower rate, and children under 14 are exempt. In 2026, it was charged on selected days from April 3 to July 26, 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m.; ticket sales brought in more than €5.2 million from just under 680,000 entry tickets.
The fee is intended to steer some same-day visitors away from the busiest periods, rather than stop tourism altogether. A higher price may instead mainly deter visitors who cannot afford it.
