Foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan discussed arranging an urgent chiefs-of-staff meeting under their joint defence pact to consider support for Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities said they intercepted six ballistic missiles fired by Yemen’s Houthis.
The Houthis said they had fired dozens of missiles and drones at Saudi targets on Thursday. Saudi Arabia issued emergency alerts for Mecca, Jeddah and Yanbu, its main Red Sea oil port; Houthi attacks have also disrupted Saudi oil flows.
The three ministers condemned attacks on Mecca and other civilian sites and affirmed Saudi Arabia’s right to defend itself, according to a Saudi foreign ministry statement. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the Houthis were responsible for their own actions as Tehran sought to distance itself from the group’s advance.
