Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R-Texas) praised a Supreme Court ruling allowing the Trump administration to use the SAVE database for voter-citizenship checks before the midterms, but said she wished states had been able to require checks before Nov. 3.
SAVE stands for Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements. The system was created to verify work eligibility and has been proposed as a tool for checking voter citizenship. Van Duyne urged immediate implementation.
Van Duyne alleged Democrats have tolerated illegal voting when it benefits them. Democrats oppose using SAVE for voter checks, arguing it could disenfranchise eligible citizens and lacks proper safeguards.
