A US appeals court upheld the Pentagon’s designation of Anthropic as a supply-chain risk, keeping in place a restriction that bars companies with Defense Department contracts from working with the AI firm if they want to retain those contracts.
Anthropic had said the Pentagon could use its models but not to create autonomous weapons or conduct mass surveillance of Americans, Yahoo Finance technology editor Dan Howley said. He said US operations in Iran and Venezuela had used Anthropic technology, but it was unclear how long any current use would continue.
On a possible IPO, Howley said there was no firm date: the initial expectation was early fall, while newer reports pointed to November, and Anthropic had not yet publicly filed its S-1. He said the company appeared to remain on track, barring changes related to the ruling.
