The UN says it has documented 32 civilians killed in Yemen's latest fighting since August, including 15 children and three women. It also documented 125 people killed or wounded as violence surges after a 2022 truce largely froze the civil war.
Violence has flared along old front lines in recent weeks, including around Taiz, as the Houthis swept south along the Red Sea coast. The humanitarian crisis has displaced more than 130,000 people, some of whom fled across the Red Sea to Africa. The UN also documented three Ansar Allah attacks on sites for internally displaced people since August; it was unclear whether its casualty toll included any deaths or injuries from those incidents.
The UN gave no breakdown of responsibility for the casualties. Both sides alleged hundreds had been killed in recent weeks without providing details. Houthi spokesperson Mohammed Abdulsalam said the UN rights office was no longer impartial and called its allegations false. He accused it of ignoring what he described as Saudi attacks on inmates at a correctional facility, homes and schools. Saudi officials say their forces do not target civilians. More than 70 UN staff are detained by the Houthis; Turk called for their release and urged all parties to protect civilians.
