Britain’s Ofcom has opened an investigation into whether Pornhub met its Online Safety Act duty to keep under-18s from pornography. It is concerned operator Aylo may not have sufficiently tested Apple’s age-verification process, which Aylo adopted in May.
Ofcom said the investigation would not assess how Apple operates its age checks. Aylo vice president Alex Kekesi said the company would cooperate and said Apple’s device-level age-verification update offers one of the strongest and hardest-to-circumvent protections available.
Ofcom can fine a business up to £18 million or 10% of its qualifying worldwide revenue, or block non-compliant sites. It has already fined adult-content platforms more than £1 million in total for age-check failures.
