Two pilots were being treated for minor injuries after ejecting from an RAF Hawk T2 training jet before it crashed and burst into flames near Pencarnisiog on Anglesey. The RAF has temporarily paused Hawk training as a precaution while it investigates.
Footage shared online appears to show flames from the jet’s rear as it rolled along the runway, then disappearing as it climbed; the timing of the ejections after take-off is unclear. Former RAF pilot Mikey Kay said flames appeared to come from beside the engine, near the main hydraulics, but cautioned that it was too early to determine the cause.
The BBC understands that the pause also covers Hawk T1 aircraft used by the Red Arrows. They were not due to fly again until the Le Touquet Airshow in France that weekend; the date for lifting the restriction was unknown.
