Uber’s growth case spans autonomous vehicles and a possible Delivery Hero deal

Insider Monkey

Insider Monkey’s analysis says Uber’s growth case extends beyond ride-hailing, citing more than 30 autonomous-vehicle partners and a possible Delivery Hero acquisition. It also notes Q2 revenue missed analyst expectations.

The article says Uber plans to use outside AV providers rather than develop self-driving technology in-house, alongside a $10 billion commitment to infrastructure and offtake investments. If completed, the Delivery Hero acquisition could give Uber access to 99 markets and $236 billion in pro forma gross bookings.

Risks cited include competition in local delivery, urban driver-supply costs and discretionary consumer spending. Q2 revenue was $14.19 billion, below the $14.24 billion analyst consensus, and Uber’s third-quarter earnings outlook was also below expectations. The analysis says Tesla’s Cybercab production and Waymo’s $16 billion financing could intensify competition for Uber’s AV platform. Hedge funds reporting Uber positions fell from 153 in Q1 2026 to 151 in Q2; short interest was 2.21% of shares outstanding.
