The U.S. and China agreed to establish a dialogue on artificial intelligence and a communications channel intended to help defuse serious incidents, the White House said. The talks will cover risks and benefits of the technology, with another meeting planned by November.
A White House fact sheet listing outcomes from President Donald Trump’s summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping said the countries agreed to refer to AI as “super intelligence,” or “SI.” It named the planned forum the U.S.-China Super Intelligence Dialogue and described the term as Trump’s preferred wording for the technology.
The White House did not specify which incidents would warrant using the channel or what notifications each side would provide. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent focused on creating the channel during pre-summit meetings with Chinese officials the previous weekend.
