Two Gloucestershire pubs won categories at the 2026 Great British Pub Awards: the refurbished Dr Foster on Gloucester Docks took Best Town Pub, two years after reopening, while The Plough Inn in Prestbury won Best Family Pub.
The awards are decided after unannounced in-person visits. Gloucester’s Coach and Horses was a finalist for Community Pub of the Year.
Dr Foster operator ART Hospitality’s founder Dorian Kirk said the award focused on the pub’s service to the community, including charity events, comedy and quizzes. Plough owner Emma Gibbon called the win a bonus for her team, noting that a busy pub is not necessarily profitable. She said the pub aims to offer something for every generation and has a play area.
