Brayden J. Klein and Samuel N. Vane, both 20, were arrested and charged with hazing and disorderly conduct after an anonymous tip led Madison police to a fraternity basement. Police said about 30 men were partially clothed; several had visible injuries.
Officers arrived around 8:20 p.m. at a residence in the 100 block of Langdon Street. Police said the men were covered in food, condiments and other liquids; the basement thermostat was set to 81 degrees, creating hot, humid conditions. Officers declared the event unlawful and escorted everyone outside.
UW–Madison suspended the chapter in 2013 after a party led a minor and another person to require alcohol detoxification, then terminated it in 2015 for holding events despite the suspension. The school says the chapter can operate unaffiliated with the university because its national organization recognizes it. Alpha Epsilon Pi said it takes the allegations seriously and will cooperate with formal investigations; police said their investigation is ongoing.
