Trump reposts calls to replace Maria Elvira Salazar amid immigration clash

Trump reposted over a dozen attacks on Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, including calls to replace her, after she criticized his immigration crackdown in an ad. The White House did not immediately clarify whether he would withdraw his August reelection endorsement.

Salazar's ad, released the previous week and filmed outside the White House, said the administration's enforcement had “gone too far” and warned that Hispanic voters who helped Trump win in 2024 felt betrayed. Earlier that week, she said she had a “fantastic conversation” with Trump about immigration and that he “listened.” After the ad, Trump said he still supported her but added: “I’m very strong on the borders — and she isn’t.”

Salazar's bipartisan Dignity Act would provide legal status to immigrants with no criminal record who have lived in the U.S. for multiple years. MAGA critics accuse her of supporting “amnesty,” a label she rejects, saying the bill offers no path to citizenship. More than 70% of her district's electorate is Hispanic, and the seat is among Democrats' top targets to flip in November; Salazar won her primary with over 80% of the vote.
