Trump, Hegseth and McConnell draw ‘Weekend Update’ jokes in SNL’s Season 52 opener

TV Insider

At the Season 52 premiere of “Saturday Night Live,” Colin Jost and Michael Che’s “Weekend Update” mocked Trump’s meeting with Xi Jinping, Pete Hegseth’s Texas A&M remarks, Trump TV and Mitch McConnell’s return to Congress after a three-month hiatus following a health scare.

Jost joked that Trump drove to the airport to meet Xi “like a boyfriend with no job,” then showed footage of Trump wincing during a military flyover as Xi remained stone-faced. Jost also mocked Hegseth’s commencement address, which included a derogatory term for transgender people, and asked why Hegseth was thinking about them.

Che compared the Trump TV livestream with Paramount+; titles including “Tulsa King,” “Dutton Ranch,” “1883” and “Yellowstone” appeared on screen. He also joked about a video of 84-year-old McConnell giving reporters a peace sign as he returned to his Washington home, saying it showed what McConnell refused to “rest in.”
