Campaigners say a new booking system is restricting public use of Lower Field, a roughly six-acre site in Totnes owned by Education South West. The trust says it uses the system to manage access for safety and school needs; public rights of way still lead to the river.
Education South West has Department for Education approval to dispose of the land for housing, but says no buyer has been identified. The trust says a sale would help keep the college sustainable and allow investment in school buildings and facilities.
Friends of Lower Field formed after signs and barriers appeared at entrances in July. Campaigners say the field was used for informal football, picnics, organised sports and community events. The trust says the signs were renewed as part of ongoing land management and did not introduce new restrictions.
