Trader Joe’s has launched an 18-ounce Swedish Princess Raspberry Cake for $7.99, and customers are posting taste-test videos on TikTok. The retailer says the frozen dessert is made in Sweden and will be sold in stores through the end of the year.
The cake layers airy sponge around raspberry jam and pastry cream, topped with whipped cream and pastel-green marzipan. TikTok reviewers praised its light cream and raspberry flavor; one said the marzipan was not too thick.
The dessert appeared in a technical challenge on Season 5 of The Great British Bake Off. Its recipe is credited to Swedish author and home economics teacher Jenny Åkerström, who taught Princesses Margaretha, Märtha and Astrid. First called “green cake,” it was renamed princess cake because the princesses were said to love it.
