Texas State plans to start construction in October on a $4.5 million baseball and softball facility with a pitching lab, three indoor batting cages, a weight room, training space and locker rooms. It is the first phase of a $16 million overhaul.
The climate-controlled lab is intended for training, evaluating pitching and hitting mechanics, tracking pitching performance and using biomechanics to help prevent injuries. Texas State has also recently added TrackMan camera and radar systems that capture real-time pitching metrics, including velocity and ball movement, on an iPad.
The remaining $12 million is allocated for a ballpark clubhouse combining the baseball locker room and players’ lounge at Irvine-Rasmussen Ballpark, along with more spectator seating and improved hospitality areas. Feasibility planning is ongoing, and construction start dates for that work have not been determined.
