Tesla plans to roll out its electric Semi trucks late Thursday at the inauguration of its Sparks, Nevada, plant. Their range is up to 500 miles; Tesla's July letter said production would begin in 2026, after an earlier volume-production target for this year.
Clean-transportation nonprofit Catalyst Mobility said a coalition of the world's largest cargo-owning shippers, including Microsoft and PepsiCo, ordered 2,500 Semis this week—nearly double the existing U.S. fleet of electric Class 8 trucks.
Tesla began limited deliveries in the U.S. in late 2022, including to PepsiCo. The first Semi rolled off the high-volume production line in April. Tesla said the Nevada factory was being set up for annual capacity of up to 50,000 units; Swedish freight technology company Einride announced a deal last month to add 500 Semis to its fleet.
