IBM connects Digital Asset Haven to Swift as 17 banks pilot tokenized deposits

IBM linked Digital Asset Haven to Swift’s blockchain-based shared ledger, where 17 banks are piloting tokenized deposits. Two beta updates add familiar ISO 20022 payment messaging and an on-premises option, keeping software and cryptographic keys in-house.

Participants named in the article include BNY, Citi, HSBC, UBS, Wells Fargo, ANZ, BNP Paribas, DBS, MUFG, Standard Chartered and Lloyds. The messaging adapter lets banks instruct tokenized transactions through payment formats they already use instead of blockchain-specific workflows; funds can move around the clock, including weekends, while final settlement uses current systems.

The on-premises beta runs entirely on a client’s own IBM Z or LinuxONE hardware. IBM says Crypto Express hardware security modules secure the software and cryptographic keys, while formal key ceremonies produce documentation clients can present to regulators. Digital Asset Haven launched in October 2025 with wallet infrastructure provider Dfns and was previously offered only as a cloud service or in a hybrid setup.
