Ten men received sentences totaling more than 130 years for roles in a 2021 Stoke-on-Trent house fire, which a judge and prosecutor called a deliberate revenge attack. A 13-year-old suffered 15% burns to her right arm; her mother had 65% burns and needs lifelong medical care.
Police said the fire followed a Dec. 16, 2021, street fight in Longton in which Kashif Ahmed was stabbed in the shoulder. Nearly seven hours later, a group arrived at the Stoke-on-Trent home demanding to speak to Naveed Hussain, smashed windows and poured petrol in multiple areas. Police said the mother was struck on the head and set on fire; she and her daughter escaped by jumping from an upstairs window.
The mother also suffered a broken pelvis, broken ribs and a lacerated liver, spent two months in a coma and later had to relearn to walk. Police said CCTV, digital evidence and forensic work helped establish the roles played by those involved.
