Tim Tebow says he is pausing his relationship with Life Surge while his team investigates podcast allegations that the Christian-focused organization encourages event attendees to buy financial courses costing up to $40,000.
The allegations were detailed Thursday by “Pablo Torre Finds Out” host Pablo Torre and Mother Jones co-investigator Kiera Butler. Their account says attendees pay $30 for introductory events, then can enroll in three-day “impact classes” for $97 and later SurgeU packages priced at about $10,000 to $40,000. The investigators say Tebow was paid $50,000 to $100,000 to headline introductory events.
One couple told Mother Jones they borrowed roughly $40,000 on interest-free credit cards after speaking with a Life Surge financial counselor, but made no money in the stock market and later took out a home-equity loan to pay the remaining debt. They said its variable interest rate had risen to 29%. Tebow said Friday he learned of the allegations Thursday and was caught off guard.
