Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. apologized Friday for saying his $500 million, 14-year extension reflected past accomplishments and that “real fans” support him through slumps; he said his fans and teammates deserved an apology.
Guerrero said his father, Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero, told him the remarks were wrong and that he should apologize. He said he regretted what he said and would keep working to make the contract great.
Before the Blue Jays’ final three-game series with Cincinnati, Guerrero had nine home runs and a .263/.335/.360 batting line. His 14-year extension averages $35 million a year.
