Isaac Bechara, 18, was charged with concealing a serious indictable offense and denied bail after an 11-year-old Sydney boy died Sept. 24, three days after being shot in the face. Two other 18-year-old men arrested were released pending investigation.
Police responded to a Sydney apartment shooting around 5 p.m. on Sept. 21 and found the boy wounded in the face and neck. Paramedics treated him and took him to Children's Hospital at Westmead in critical condition. Five other people were at the home and uninjured; ABC reported that one was a 43-year-old woman and another person had left before police arrived.
Superintendent Naomi Moore said the shooting did not appear, at this stage, to be directly linked to current conflicts. She said several people inside were well known to NSW Police and investigators were considering possible organized-crime associations. ABC reported that the firearm had not been recovered.
