After a mid-March diagnosis of early-stage breast cancer, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles says six months of treatment while continuing in her role deepened her sense of purpose. On Sept. 16, she said doctors had declared her cancer-free.
In a USA TODAY essay published Sept. 27, Wiles said her White House work helped her through difficult periods and reminded her that her life was about more than the disease. She thanked her family, medical team, White House staff and President Donald Trump for their support.
Wiles said she had come through the hardest part, but that the next stage would require a serious commitment to rebuilding what treatment had taken from her.
