Age UK Milton Keynes is auctioning a Superman IV key signed by Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman and Margot Kidder, found in its office after more than 40 years. Valued at £2,500, it remains open to bids; proceeds are intended for urgent building repairs and improvements.
The key came to Age UK as a thank-you gift from Cannon Films, producer of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. The charity’s Milton Keynes building served as a production base for the 1987 film. Goldin Auctions believed the key could fetch more because of its unusual provenance and links to the film and its stars, according to charity spokesperson Mark McCarthy.
Jason Joiner, who runs the city’s National Film and Sci-Fi Museum, said about 18 minutes of the 90-minute film was shot in Milton Keynes, mostly outside the railway station, which doubled as the UN headquarters in New York. McCarthy said the charity hoped a local business or individual would buy the key and bring it back to Milton Keynes.
