SVG ranks Super Mario Galaxy first among five 3D Mario games, followed by Super Mario 64, Odyssey, Galaxy 2 and 3D World. It cites Galaxy’s gravity-based planet levels, orchestral score and design; the list excludes Mario Kart and other spin-offs.
Super Mario 64, in second place, marked the series’ move into 3D in 1996, with Mario collecting Power Stars across levels linked to Peach’s castle. Odyssey (third) features Cappy’s temporary possession mechanic and more open exploration; Galaxy 2 (fourth) adds Yoshi and new power-ups. Fifth-place 3D World supports up to four-player co-op, and its Switch version includes the Bowser’s Fury continuation.
