Ed Sheeran’s Friday and Saturday shows at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., were canceled because of severe weather warnings, promoter Messina Touring said. The decision followed consultations with local officials, and ticket holders can receive refunds.
A powerful nor’easter was expected to bring strong winds, coastal flooding and heavy rain to much of the East Coast over the weekend. The Associated Press reported potential gusts of 50 to 55 mph around Boston and 35 to 40 mph farther inland.
Separately, the Loop tour had already lost opening act Macklemore. Messina Touring dismissed him after Jewish advocacy groups criticized his pro-Palestinian messaging during shows at MetLife Stadium. Sheeran denied having a role in the decision but said he spoke with Robert Kraft, who had expressed concern about Macklemore remaining on the tour. The remaining supporting acts, including Finneas and Beoga, quit in solidarity. Sheeran is next expected to perform Oct. 3 in Atlanta.
