South African police said a woman’s body was found near Johannesburg Saturday, bringing to 10 the number of victims in killings under investigation. Some cases share similarities, but police have no conclusive evidence that the same person or people were responsible.
Two women were arrested and charged with murder last week in relation to the ninth body, found Sept. 17. Police have not linked them to the other killings. Police commissioner Tommy Mthombeni told SABC investigators believed the ninth killing was isolated, though they could not rule out links among other cases.
Police released few details about the 10th body and had not identified the woman. The first three bodies were found in July and August within about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) of one another in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg; six more were discovered there over 10 days earlier this month. The first nine victims were women in their 20s or 30s, and several were naked or partially clothed in open areas near main roads.
