As November midterms near, Michigan Senate hopeful Mike Rogers and Iowa Rep. Ashley Hinson say the Iran war must end; some GOP candidates are distancing themselves from Trump. His approval is in the low to mid-30s, and the GOP House majority is at risk.
A Wall Street Journal analysis of nearly 70,000 hours of podcasts found mentions of Trump per hour on conservative podcasts had dropped nearly 70% from their peak before the 2024 election. The column says many hosts have voiced unhappiness with the economy and the war, while spending much of their airtime attacking Democrats.
The Washington Post reported that Mike Beltran removed from his campaign website a line saying he had “stood with President Trump every step of the way,” along with Trump photos and “America First” references; at least seven other GOP congressional candidates were also downplaying Trump ties. Hinson was among seven House Republicans who backed a resolution urging Trump to halt military action in Iran or seek congressional approval. The Senate voted down a resolution to end the war 50-49 on Thursday.
