Semtech launched a 10G PON chipset designed for triple-generation 50G optical line terminal (OLT) applications. It could cut power use by up to 400 mW per port—about 6.5 W on a full 16-port OLT; adoption depends on vendor validation and network rollouts.
The chipset pairs GN7153C, a 10G PON OLT combo IC that combines laser-bias driver outputs with a dual-rate burst-mode amplifier, and GN28L46, a high-sensitivity burst-mode transimpedance amplifier. Semtech also added LR2022 and LR2012 transceivers to its LoRa Plus family; early adoption by enterprise clients Engelmann and Zenner could lead to more uptake among metering and utility customers.
Broadcom already offers integrated OLT solutions supporting GPON, XGS-PON and 50G PON, creating competition for Semtech’s market share and pricing power. Adoption depends on validation by broadband vendors and optical-module makers; qualification could delay revenue recognition. Operator budgets and infrastructure priorities may shift 50G rollout timing, while supply-chain volatility, trade tensions and possible manufacturing disruptions could affect schedules, costs and margins. Insider Monkey’s 13F data counted 84 hedge funds with long-term exposure at the end of Q2 2026, up from 56 in Q1; reported short interest was 8.10%.
