Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says the Trump administration has not responded for more than a week to his request for a classified briefing for all senators on AI risks, including cyberattacks and the flow of AI chips and manufacturing equipment to China.
Schumer made the request earlier this month after an Anthropic researcher warned about dangers of pursuing artificial superintelligence. He also sought details on the administration’s frontier-AI testing framework and plans to protect the U.S. from AI-enabled cyberattacks.
Trump said Tuesday that the Justice Department could intervene if AI companies caused serious problems, while opposing new regulations he said could hinder U.S. innovation. Schumer suggested on Sept. 22 that the Trump family’s AI investments—he estimated hundreds of millions, possibly billions—could explain the administration’s silence. Separately, Trump’s investment disclosures released in May, July and August listed more than 20,000 stock trades over the prior year, with holdings concentrated in AI infrastructure, cloud computing and consumer technology.
