Steve Sarkisian pushed back at an anonymous coach’s “soft” label after No. 1 Texas beat No. 14 Tennessee 20-17 in Knoxville. He said he thought eight Tennessee players were carted off; quarterback Faizon Brandon briefly left with an apparent shoulder injury, then returned.
The anonymous coach had told The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman that Texas lacked an edge and was “soft everywhere.” The Longhorns recorded 10 sacks; Collin Simmons had five, tying the Texas single-game record.
Tennessee defensive lineman Xavier Gilliam also left with an injury. Texas’s next game is after a bye, against Oklahoma on Oct. 11.
