San Diego scores 10 against Arizona to clinch Wild Card home field

SB Nation

The San Diego Padres scored 10 runs to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday and clinch home-field advantage for their Wild Card series. Mason Miller allowed three runs in the ninth but finished the win; the Padres host the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.

Xander Bogaerts and Manny Machado homered, and every Padres batter reached base. Machado’s homer was his 30th of the season and the 399th of his career, leaving him one short of 400 with the regular-season finale still to play.

Sunday’s finale will not affect San Diego’s standing, but Arizona can still clinch a playoff spot if the Philadelphia Phillies lose.
