Former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh said San Francisco would have drafted Cam Skattebo in 2025, but the Giants selected the running back at No. 105, before the 49ers chose C.J. West at No. 113. Saleh said Kyle Shanahan loved Skattebo.
Skattebo became the Giants’ starting running back. In eight games in 2025, he rushed for 410 yards and five touchdowns and caught 24 passes for 207 yards before a season-ending injury. This season, he has 117 rushing yards and one touchdown in two games.
The 49ers selected Upton Stout at No. 100 before taking West. They later drafted running back Jordan James in the fifth round.
