Former Bayern executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says Harry Kane’s arrival the following summer corrected Bayern Munich’s “serious mistake” of going without a No. 9 after Robert Lewandowski left in 2022. He calls Kane one of Bayern’s two or three most important signings.
After Lewandowski left for Barcelona, Bayern tried playing without a specialist striker under coach Julian Nagelsmann. Sadio Mané, signed from Liverpool, moved to the left wing, while Lewandowski’s deputy Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting took the No. 9 role. Bayern scored 92 goals that season but dropped points in last-minute draws; Nagelsmann was sacked in March.
