Gary “Angry” Anderson, frontman of Australian rock band Rose Tattoo, died in Sydney on Sept. 21 at 79, the band announced on its official Instagram account. He had suffered cardiac arrest weeks earlier during the group’s European farewell tour.
Rose Tattoo canceled an Aug. 9 appearance at Belgium’s Alcatraz Metal Festival after saying Anderson was hospitalized for a medical issue, then called off the rest of its European dates. The band later identified the issue as cardiac arrest and said he was receiving hospital care.
Rose Tattoo formed in Sydney in 1976. Anderson also had a solo hit with 1987’s “Suddenly,” which featured in the Neighbours wedding episode for Scott and Charlene. He was named a Member of the Order of Australia in 1993 for youth advocacy.
