Robyn closed her Portola Music Festival headlining set with “Dancing On My Own,” following “Call Your Girlfriend.” When the music dropped out at the chorus, the crowd sang it in full, creating what was likely the biggest singalong in the festival’s five-year history.
Backed by a live band on the Pier stage, Robyn also performed “Fembot,” “Talk to Me” from her 2026 album “Sexistential,” and the title track from “Honey.” She told the audience she used to feel embarrassed about writing only sad love songs, but had embraced them and was happy she did.
Robyn’s 2010s “Body Talk” albums helped propel her to idol status, with Slate calling her the “queen of sad bangers” for songs including “Dancing On My Own” and “Call Your Girlfriend.” Her 2026 album “Sexistential” candidly details her experience with IVF, which resulted in the birth of her son in 2022.
