HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Sept. 21 the administration launched a formal request for information on possible health effects of radiofrequency and electromagnetic-field exposure from phones, Wi-Fi, 5G and other wireless technology.
The request asks what existing evidence shows, where research gaps remain and whether real-world exposures are measured adequately. It also raises cumulative exposure and whether possible effects should be studied differently in children, pregnant women, workers and people with implanted medical devices. Researchers, clinicians and the public—including people who believe they or a family member experienced an adverse effect—were invited to submit evidence and data.
The World Health Organization says no adverse health effect has been causally linked to wireless technologies. The National Cancer Institute says evidence to date suggests cellphone use does not cause brain or other cancers; the COSMOS study reported no evidence of increased brain-tumor risk associated with mobile-phone use, even beyond 15 years.
